My grandpa once said I don't mind sitting down to talk with you but we won't talk about religion or politics.
the reason he said that was both of these topics are quite sensitive and can lead to disagreements among people.
well this is a rather one-sided monologue so I'm not going to have an argument with anybody.
you're free to agree with me, and you're free to disagree with me. and if you want to disagree I welcome the disagreement.
okay
Introduction
Hi and welcome to the Les Perras podcast episode number 329.
This podcast is excellent for extensive English listening, to help you expand your listening vocabulary.
Today's podcast episode is about Religion.
Religion vs Spiritualism
Religion and spiritualism are kind of the same thing but they're kind of different
What I mean is they are both in the same sphere but they're both kind of on different sides of the spear they're both talking about the greater things in life but they're attacking it from different sides.
in other words religion is more formal and organized whereas spiritualism is not formal at all and it's not organized at all.
religion is more for groups of people. spiritualism is more for one person.
Some of the Famous leaders
Some extremely famous people went on to become the leaders of religions.
all the world religions had a human leader although a lot of those religions might argue they weren't human they were divine.
for instance Jesus Christ was the famous leader that led to Christianity.
Buddha was the famous leader that led to Buddhism and Krishna was a famous leader that led to Hinduism and Muhammad was a famous leader that led to Islam.
so religion seem to Spring out of single person or entity or source.
spirituality has no such single source.
it doesn't put anybody or anything in between us and the Prime Force of the universe.
religion seems to remove us from a direct connection with the Prime Force of the universe.
religion put somebody in between us and god.
reasons why I don’t like religion
I don't like religion because it places somebody in between me and God.
whether you want to say God or Allah or Manitou or what have you let's just say the prime mover or the great force has got to have a direct connection with each and every one of us I feel.
what I mean is religion is prescriptive. religion gives power to some people and takes power away from everybody else.
religion tells you what's right and wrong and doesn't leave anything up to your own judgment or discretion.
I've heard stories where groups of people got together and made decisions that they wanted to impose on everybody else.
it's hard to imagine that they know more than everybody else so I decided to opt out of religion.
